Patented Editing Technology from WordRake Helps City of Seattle “Take the Bureaucracy out of Our Writing”
Jan 22, 2013
SEATTLE – January 23, 2013 – The City of Seattle’s purchasing department, transportation department, Mayor’s office, and the City Attorney’s office have all installed WordRake® software, the breakthrough, patented editing technology, originally designed for lawyers. WordRake software can “rake” through a 10-page Word document in 30 seconds, detecting and highlighting words that add no meaning. The WordRake program met every one of the City’s rigorous security requirements and was quickly and easily installed.
Nancy Locke, Director of Purchasing for the City of Seattle says, “Once I saw WordRake in action, I realized the software would work well for anyone in government, not just lawyers. It takes the bureaucracy out of our writing. As soon as I tried it myself, I wanted my staff to have this capability on their desktops. The program has helped them communicate better to our public, and any tool that can do that is very valuable. I see WordRake software becoming as ubiquitous as spellcheck.”
She continues, “Normally, I don’t advocate for a product, because in purchasing, I have to stay neutral. However, because I loved what WordRake software did for my writing, I was determined for more people to benefit from it. I searched for a comparable editing program, but I couldn’t find anything like it – WordRake was the sole source for this unique functionality.”
Locke adds that WordRake would be an incredibly helpful tool for federal government employees, who must comply with the Plain Writing Act of 2010 and Washington State agencies who must follow the mandate of the state’s “Plain Talk Initiative.” ”WordRake should become a staple in any government agency,” says Locke.
City of Seattle employees use WordRake software to edit contracts, letters, ordinance language, and policy documents. Many have reported that using the software helps them to become better writers.
Jim Figel, President and CEO at WordRake LLC, adds, “We are proud that the City of Seattle has benefited from the WordRake software. Government agencies, law firms, and myriad other organizations can benefit from WordRake’s unique ability to streamline and clarify writing.”
